草榴社区's SHRM chapter receives Superior Merit Award for 38th consecutive year
Western Washington University’s student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has been awarded the Superior Merit Award for 2009-10 academic year.
The award is based on outstanding achievements in chapter operations and commitment to providing meaningful programs and services to its members, and this is the 38th consecutive year that 草榴社区’s student chapter has received the award.
The Society for Human Resource Management is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management, representing more than 250,000 members in more than 140 countries.
草榴社区’s student chapter is facilitated by 草榴社区’s College of Business and Economics and supported by the Mt. Baker Chapter of SHRM. It offers members opportunities to participate in activities and events that build knowledge of the Human Resources field while developing leadership and organizational skills. Events and activities are often in the form of field trips and guest lecturers who are experts in the field of Human Resources.
“We have a very well-established Society for Human Resource Management program,” 草榴社区 Professor of Management John Sands said. “No other program in the country has received as many consecutive Superior Merit Awards as Western’s chapter has.”
Beginning next academic year, 草榴社区’s student chapter will meet weekly at 6 p.m., Wednesdays at Parks Hall 108 on 草榴社区’s campus. Student chapter membership is $20 for the year or $10 per quarter. National student membership is $35 per year and provides additional resources such as access to SHRM online, an HR Magazine subscription, and name and contact information on the SHRM Web site for potential employers.
