Students to blog Rwanda adventures this summer
Ten Western Washington University students are in Gashora, Rwanda, for six weeks this summer as part of a faculty-led study abroad program.
The trip is led by Lee Gulyas, English, and Tim Costello, director of the Center for Service-Learning. Students will be .
In the 12-credit , students and faculty study equitable and productive international development efforts in Gashora while exploring and examining travel writing with an emphasis on Rwanda and Africa.
Students also get to:
- Explore the history, culture, politics and economy of Rwanda
- Engage in meaningful service-learning projects to support local development initiatives
- Learn how to nurture and sustain international partnerships
- Actively live and contribute in a global society
- Examine travel writing through literature, theory, and practice
- Discover a variety of ways to collect and use information to create original literary nonfiction
- Study current travel writing from a variety of regions and perspectives
- Analyze, interpret, discuss and practice travel writing with an emphasis on writing about, and from, Rwanda and Africa.
