Students to honor MLK with read-in Jan. 16 at Village Books
In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., the annual read-in celebration and book drive, sponsored by Western Washington University’s and , will take place between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16 in the Readings Gallery of Village Books in Fairhaven.
The event is free and open to the public.
The event will feature stories from around the world about social justice and multiculturalism as well as activities for children ages 3-8.
Western student volunteers will support the event by engaging with children through literature, games and dialogue regarding themes of tolerance, the civil rights movement, and diversity in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
The book drive will take place from Jan. 3 to 20 at Village Books and Western’s AS Bookstore. Displays and drop boxes will be set up at each store for donations to be made to local elementary school libraries.
