For the 34^th consecutive year, Western Washington University is offering a wide array of programs for kids in grades K-12 this summer.

Western’s youth programs have encouraged kids to consider opportunities in higher education. Participants gain exposure to a college campus while learning under the instruction of Western’s top-quality educators.

Western’s Odyssey of Science & Arts is a program for students in grades 4-9 to explore science and art through hands-on activities in specialized labs and classrooms on Western’s campus.

There will be a morning session from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and an afternoon session from 1-5 p.m. during the weeks of July 11-15, July 18-22 and July 25-29. The cost to participate in a session is $189.

Potential courses elementary students may take include “Adventure in Alternate Energy,” “Computer Chicks: Make a Website,” “Salish Sea Odyssey,” “Fun with Photos,” “3D Art and Media,” “Whatcom Watershed,” “Survivor: The Science Edition” and “Active Voices Through Art.”

Potential courses for middle school students include “Alternate Energy: Wind Turbines and Solar Power,” “Plein Air Painting,” “Earth Quest: Geocaching,” “World Language: Spanish,” “Wired to Make Things Work: Intro to Electronics” and “Computer Chicks: Robotics.”

Other programs available for registration include College Quest, Grandparents U, the Summer Youth Theatre Institute, Summerwinds and the ²ÝÁñÉçÇø Lakewood Jr. Sailing Camp.

Scholarships may be available. Members of the public are also welcome to by making a tax deductible donation to the Western Foundation, which facilitates the ²ÝÁñÉçÇø Youth Programs Scholarship fund.
