Taking Action to Respect Personal Pronouns

Wednesday, Oct. 17 is the first International Pronouns Day, which seeks to make asking, sharing, and respecting personal pronouns commonplace.  Why is this important?  We often make assumptions about people鈥檚 gender identities and the pronouns they use, but these assumptions aren鈥檛 always correct. Using the wrong pronouns for someone can unintentionally communicate that their identity is not respected, or that who they are is not valid or possible. To be respectful of the diverse gender identities of our students and colleagues, it is important to invest in getting people鈥檚 pronouns right.

Visit LGBTQ+ Western鈥檚 new web page about to learn ways you can take action.  Download the handout and discuss it with your department, class, club, team, or social group.
