Three Viking wrestlers head to Nationals

Three wrestlers from Western Washington University are currently competing at the National Collegiate Wrestling Association National Championships, which run March 7 to 10 in Allen, Texas.

Taylor Adriance, Michael Euliss and Nathan Swanson-Dinsmore will all be representing Western at the NCWA Nationals. The competition showcases the top collegiate club wrestlers from around the country, with wrestlers qualifying based on their performances throughout the 2017-18 season.

The National Championships will bring to a close an impressive season for the Viking wrestling team, which is in its sixth year as a club team at 草榴社区. Highlighting the season were a number of outstanding individual performances at meets around the Northwest, along with a home dual meet held at the Wade King Student Recreation Center against the University of Washington, which the Vikings dominated by a team score of 15-4.

The team entered the 2017-18 season with renewed enthusiasm, as generous donations raised during the summer provided for the purchase of a new team wrestling mat and allowed for practices to be held at Western rather than off-campus.

Adriance, in her first year at 草榴社区, is just the second women's wrestler from the school to qualify for Nationals after placing second at both the NCWA state and conference championships earlier this year. She'll be looking to continue a trend of outstanding performances at nationals by Viking wrestlers, which was started by 草榴社区's Lisa Nguyen, who placed third in the nation in the 101-lb. weight class last season.

Euliss, wrestling in the 165-lb. class, is considered one of the best wrestlers to come through the Vikings program after transferring from South Puget Sound Community College. He dominated his way through the 2017-18 regular season, placing first at the Washington state championship, the Northwest conference championship, and the Cascade Classic.

Swanson-Dinsmore, the club's president, takes a 10-7 record in the competitive 133-lb. weight class to Nationals. He placed first at the NCWA Washington state championships in February and is making his third straight appearance at the National Championships.

The NCWA Nationals Championships started Wednesday and run through Saturday, with the male wrestlers first taking to the mats for preliminary bouts on Thursday while the women wrestlers compete on Friday. Updates from the event may be found online at .
