BELLINGHAM – The Western Washington University Flames women’s rugby club won the Pacific Coast Rugby Football Championships last weekend and as the region’s top seed will enter the first round of the USA Rugby 2011 Women's Division II College Championship on Saturday, April 16th at the University of California-San Diego.

“The team could not be more excited to be going into playoffs as we feel it is a culmination of a season of hard work and dedication to the team,” Sarah Coe, president and co-captain of the Flames, said. “The team is truly a family unit and I think that is reflected on the field.”

They enter the playoffs as the number one overall seed and will play the Claremont Colleges. With a win they will play the winner between George Washington University and Lee University in the second round on Sunday, April 17.

If the team gets both wins, they will advance to the Final Four on Saturday, April 30 in Pittsburgh, Penn.

“As a team, we feel confident in our chances of winning or at least placing in the Final Four,” Coe said. “However, we know that the road ahead will be very long and hard.”
