More students are applying to Western Washington University than ever before, according to the university.

Western received 9,802 freshman applications by the Jan. 31 deadline for fall 2015 enrollment, exceeding last year鈥檚 applications by more than 500. There are鈥

Washington鈥檚 five public universities and its one public college received record-breaking numbers of freshman applications for fall 2015, including more applications from students who qualify for a state tuition scholarship.

Kimball Gainor was crowned Miss Seattle in November, according to her mother, Carole Gainor. Kimball grew up in Bellingham and is a senior at Western Washington University. She was sponsored by the Bellingham Food Bank.

She was the overall winner in interview, swimsuit, and evening gown,鈥
