Childs brings home-grown humor back to the valley

Toby Childs says he got his first taste of how appealing improvisation can be as a student playing in a jazz band led by Methow Valley musician Terry Hunt. Childs became hooked on the concept as it applies to humor, and has been making up funny stuff ever since.

The Dead Parrots Society will be making Western more spontaneous with its first ever improvisation festival, which will bring improv teams from all over the U.S. and Canada to campus at the end of May.

Late-night poetry and jazz coming to iDiOM

The iDiOM Theater, 1418 Cornwall Ave., is starting late-night events and one of them is a series of poetry and jazz slams.

At 10 p.m. on the last Friday of every month, Tobias Childs, a Dead Parrots Society alum who has performed at the Upfront Theater, will host the Jazz Jam and Poetry鈥
