​Western's Political Science Department and College of Humanities and Social Sciences will host ²ÝÁñÉçÇø alumnus Joshua Dyck, associate professor of Political Science and Co-Director of the Center for Public Opinion at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, for his presentation, "Initiatives Without Engagement: A Realistic Account of the Secondary Effects of Direct Democracy" from 3-5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8 in Science Lecture 130.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is the annual Gordon Sandison Memorial Lecture being presented in conjunction with the 25th Annual Political Science Association Conference, being held that day in Arntzen 419. Dyck is a political scientist and survey researcher who frequently comments on elections and public opinion. He studies American politics, with a focus on public opinion, voting behavior, elections, parties, political communication, and state politics. Much of his research is motivated by the interplay between public opinion and different social and institutional settings, examining the way that citizens react to democratic environments and political institutions.
