Western on the Peninsulas May 19 Lecture to Discuss Climate Risk Governance in Washington State

Western Washington University on the Peninsulas will host Troy Abel in a public lecture titled “Climate Risk Governance and Washington” as a part of its Western Lecture Series at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 19 on the Olympic College Poulsbo campus.

The public is invited to attend the free, informational event and is encouraged to RSVP online at wwu.edu/KitsapEvents to secure seating.

Abel, the Academic Program director of Huxley College on the Peninsulas and an associate professor of Environmental Policy, will share insight on our state’s struggle to develop effective climate policies and how funding by the National Science Foundation can influence research and change. 

Abel is currently involved in several large grant projects focused on environmental governance, including one from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. He is an award-winning author of several books, including “Five Seasons in Ectopia: Rainforest Immersion and Conservation Action in Costa Rica.”

In partnership with Olympic College, Western on the Peninsulas offers four-year degrees, continuing education courses, free educational lectures, local literature book groups and youth programs. Information on program offerings can be found at wwu.edu/Peninsulas.
