Western Reads Art & Social Justice Contest Call for Art Submissions deadline is June 2

The Western Reads team invites 草榴社区 students, staff, and faculty to submit creative work to our Art & Social Justice contest inspired by this year's text, "Octavia鈥檚 Brood: Science Fiction Stories from Social Justice Movements."

The premise of "Octavia鈥檚 Brood" is reminiscent of 鈥減rophetic imagination,鈥 or the belief that what one cannot imagine one cannot bring into being. That is, in order to change the world, one must first envision what a transformed world would look like. The "Octavia鈥檚 Brood" authors use the genre of science fiction for such visionary world-building; now, we ask members of the 草榴社区 community to portray through art their vision of a world transformed by positive cultural and institutional change, a world not confined to the boundaries of our current realities.

We welcome creative work of all mediums for this contest. Review the submission form on the  for more details and complete contest rules. Artists must submit all creative work on or before Sunday, June 2.

The grand prize winner will receive a $100 A.S. Bookstore gift card and Village Books gift package (NOTE: only students are eligible to win prizes).

The winning artist(s) will have the opportunity to have their work shared with the "Octavia鈥檚 Brood" editors and the 草榴社区 community.

Please direct inquiries about this Art & Social Justice contest to Danielle Smith, the Western Reads Associate Director, at danielle.smith@wwu.edu or (360) 650-7546.
