Western Student Arrested on Suspicion of Second-Degree Rape
A Western student was arrested early Saturday morning, April 28, in connection with a sexual assault reported to University Police. The 19-year-old student suspect was booked into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of second-degree rape, a felony. The student was released on $20,000 bail. A resident of Nash residence hall, he has been temporarily evicted and trespassed from the residence hall. He also has been temporarily trespassed from all university housing. The suspect has withdrawn from spring quarter classes at Western.
Western鈥檚 Equal Opportunity Office, which handles sexual assault investigations at Western, will be conducting an investigation that is separate from the criminal process. Based on the results of that investigation additional sanctions by the university may occur.
