Western succeeds in resuming contact with student in Peru

Western Washington University's efforts to make contact with 草榴社区 senior Susannah Arnhart, who is studying ethno-botany in Peru, have succeeded. University officials became concerned when an expected void in communication extended longer than expected. As a result, Western began pursuing a number of different options in efforts to connect with Arnhart.

Prior to traveling to a remote area of the Peruvian Amazon, Arnhart had been keeping friends and family . While assuming that Arnhart had found an area rich in her particular area of study, which had caused the delay in reporting, Western faculty and staff decided to confirm that assumption. They pooled resources and diligently made a number of contacts, including with the U.S. Embassy in Lima, Peru, to ascertain whether Arnhart was OK. On Tuesday, Arnhart resumed contact with university officials and her family, two weeks later than she had anticipated. She is safe and relates that she had a fantastic time doing research in that remote area.

"There is nothing on Earth like the Amazon rainforest," she wrote.
