Western to offer social media course this winter
Western Washington University’s Extended Education will offer “Social Media: Building Community” to students, staff, faculty, and community members beginning Jan. 15.
The nine-week evening course is designed to give students and working professionals a broad understanding of social media and a concrete knowledge of the various platforms. An info session will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday, January 6 in Academic West Room 303.
The two-hour class sessions feature lectures and hands-on workshops for a variety of social media platforms, as well as a look at real-world examples of how social media has been used to build meaningful and authentic communication with customers, extend their brands, and build recognition.
Participants will build and implement their own social media plans, strategies, and ideas while receiving feedback under the mentorship of Matthew Anderson, Western’s New Media coordinator, as well as their peers, in a positive, sharing environment.
“Social networking isn’t about blatantly selling yourself or your business, it’s about getting to know people, listening to them and providing valuable feedback to an ongoing online conversation,” said Anderson.
