BELLINGHAM – Western Washington University’s Summer Session registration is open now, with classes beginning June 21; Summer Session classes are open to community members and formal enrollment at Western is not required.

Western offers two main sessions, one session is six weeks long and runs through July 29, and the other session is nine weeks long and runs through August 19. In addition to the two sessions, there are 1 to 3 week intensive courses, 3-day workshops, online options and study abroad programs to locations such as Africa, China, Greece, Italy, Peru and Switzerland. Western’s Summer Session also features a variety of course formats and topics ranging from dance, journalism and theatre to biology and ecology, to economics and languages. There is literally something for everyone.

Enroll in a special interest course in Personal Investments, study the Natural History of Northwest Birds, or investigate the History of the Pacific Northwest. Two of the short courses offered are Wetland Identification & Delineation (1 week) and Intro to GIS (2 weeks). If you prefer a cultural experience, learn a new language this summer by completing a year of French, German or Spanish during a 6- to 9-week intensive course.

For your creative side, consider a course at Western’s Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies. Hone your editing skills in “Film/Video Production with Final Cut Pro,” or if you prefer theatre courses, take “Plays as Perspective,” participate in a Scriptwriting Workshop or act in a play, Shakespeare’s “As You like It,” during the course “Topics in Humanities: Performance.”

Several online courses are offered during Summer Session and span a broad range of topics in Dance, Economics, Environmental Studies, Sociology, Psychology and more.
