White Ribbon Week aims to end partner violence

White Ribbon Week, set for May 12 to 17 at Western Washington University, is a week of events dedicated to ending partner violence.

The events are sponsored by MOVE and WEAVE from Prevention and Wellness Services.

  • REALationships: 7 p.m. Monday, May 12, in Bond Hall Room 111. Students will learn about what it takes to build healthy relationships and identify elements of toxic relationships.
  • Tough Guise II: 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, in Communications Facility Room 114. Tough Guise II is a documentary by anti-violence activist Jackson Katz that details the link between masculinity and gendered violence in our culture. Discussion to follow.
  • "MAN UP" Workshop: 7 p.m. Friday, May 16, in Bond Hall Room聽111. What is a man? What is masculinity? Students will explore these concepts, examine society's commonly held stereotypes of masculinity, and broaden their understanding of "manhood."
  • Walk-A-Mile in Her Shoes: Noon Saturday, May 17, at Maritime Heritage Park in downtown Bellingham. Students will walk a mile in high heels as part of a fund-raising initiative of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services of Whatcom County. The walk will start at Maritime Heritage Park and end at Boundary Bay. .
