BELLINGHAM – This spring Western Washington University will offer two courses to the public to help build skills and enhance job opportunities: “Knock-Out Editing: From Polish to Publish” and “Project Management Crash Course.”
- “Knock-Out Editing” - The first draft of any piece of writing can be passionately inspired and awfully wonderful, but a draft is precisely what it is; the work is still unfinished. For many writers, the grueling stretch begins when it is time to revise. This course will familiarize writers with editing techniques. Improve their revision stamina, and develop their creative process in the pursuit of uniting a successfully shaped work with a consideration for readership. With feedback from the instructor and peers, writers will find a sense of when it is time to elaborate, or even delete a line or two.
For more information on “Knock-Out Editing,” attend an information session at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at Village Books in Bellingham.
- “Project Management Crash Course” - This course will focus on key areas of project management and introduce project managers, and those who function as such, to some of the most useful tools available. Establish the knowledge and skills required to deliver quality results without sacrificing dollars, and execute jobs on time. The classroom environment provides a network for connecting with other people in similar work situations. Together the class will review community projects, leading to discussion and evaluation of practices implemented by current project managers.
For more information on “Project Management Crash Course,” attend an information session at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, in Communications Facility, Room 227 on the Campus. Free, nearby parking for this event is available in the gravel “C” lots on South Campus.
