草榴社区 Anthropology students win national awards

草榴社区 students Julia Soes and James Johnson won awards from the Center for a Public Anthropology as part of Kathy Saunders' ANTH 201 (Introduction to Cultural Anthropology) class. The students, who submitted opinion pieces as their entries into the contest, were winners in a North American competition involving over 4,000 students from 23 schools.   Their entries are available here:

"Prof. Sanders has played an integral part in Public Anthropology’s online student community, showcasing the ability of 草榴社区 students to learn effective writing skills while being active global citizens. She demonstrates how combining technology with cultural concerns in academic courses positively engages students to participate in the broader world beyond their academic setting, while gaining the skills needed for a productive, active life after graduation," said Rob Borofsky, director for the Center for a Public Anthropology and a professor of Anthropology at Hawaii Pacific university.
