"Respect All ... Fear None," will be the slogan for Western Washington University Athletics during the 2010-11 school year. That announcement came at a Welcome Back Celebration for Viking student-athletes Tuesday at Sam Carver Gymnasium.

The event included a highlight video from the past year when Western placed fifth in the NCAA Division II all-sports standings among 310 schools, a presentation given by 1975 alumnus and long-time Viking fan Jerry Thon, Vice President at Astoria Holdings and a member of The Western Foundation Advisory Board, and the announcement of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee for the current school year.

Western is off to an outstanding start with the men's and women's soccer and volleyball teams having a combined record of 15-2-3 (83 percent) and finishes no lower than second by either the cross country or golf squads.

Six of the seven Viking teams competing this fall are ranked among the Top 25 in their respective polls. The men's and women's cross country teams are sixth and seventh, respectively; volleyball No. 15, women's golf No. 18, women's soccer No. 20 and men's golf No. 22.
