College of Business and Economics to Host Western Business Summit on Oct. 19

BELLINGHAM – Western Washington University’s College of Business and Economics (CBE) and its Center for Excellence in Management Education will host the Western Business Summit on Friday, Oct. 19.

Initiated in 2004, the purpose of the Western Business Summit – formerly known as Teaching Scholarship Day – is to recognize and promote excellence in business education at Western'sCollege of Business and Economics by fostering connections among business professionals, faculty, staff, and students.

The activities will include a Business Education Showcase from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in Viking Union 567 entitled “Partnerships in Marketing: Industry and Student Collaborations.” The showcase will feature presentations by current CBE student Tony Yakovich, industry professionals, and Western alumni from Volvo Trucks Global, Brian Williams Consulting, and Microsoft. No registration is required for the Showcase presentation.

The Summit will also feature an MBA Advisory Board/Student Networking Workshop from 11-11:45 a.m. in Parks Hall 031. Current MBA students are encouraged to attend this workshop to network with the MBA Advisory Board members.

In addition, the Summit will include interactive educational sessions in which business students may learn directly from industry professionals. The sessions will include a Professionalism Workshop and a “Meet the Virtual Mentors” reception for the College’s Virtual Mentor program. From 12:30-1:45 p.m. in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room, CBE will hold a luncheon to recognize its 2012 Distinguished Faculty Fellow Award recipients. The cost for the lunch is $25 and registration for the luncheon is required at .
