Mathematics senior Maggie Minogue is Teaching Perspectives — that is, she hosts “,” a podcast about how current and future teachers navigate how social justice issues influence the classroom, also known as critical pedagogy.  

Minogue sat down with Professor of Secondary Education Tracey Pyscher, Associate Professors of Mathematics Rebecca Borowski and Thanh Le and fellow education student Zelda Rood to talk about what critical pedagogy means to them, strategies for building an inclusive and accessible classroom, and where they see education going in the future. 

Minogue began the podcast as her Honors College capstone project because she wanted to emphasize the amazing work teachers today are doing, she said.  

“I think with everything going on in the political climate it's important to share people's experiential knowledge,” Minogue said. “And I'm hoping that it reaches the right people, especially for current or future educators, to learn how people have been approaching these issues.”  

Minogue said her favorite part of creating the podcast was being able to hear about her guest’s experiences teaching. 

“As a future educator I think hearing from so many people with different backgrounds and specialties has been really impactful, and I know I'm going to take away something from each person,” she said. 

After graduating this June, Minogue plans to become a high school math teacher and has already been accepted into Western’s graduate teaching program.
