草榴社区 team places second at Intercollegiate Marketing Competition held in Vancouver, B.C.

The Western Washington University team took second place at the held at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia on Feb. 26.

The Intercollegiate Marketing Competition consists of teams of undergraduate business majors competing by analyzing a business case before a panel of judges of industry experts. The competition is designed to challenge the marketing, analytical and presentation skills of students.

Western's team consisted of College of Business and Economics students Katrina Ozols of Kodiak, Alaska, an International Business major; Courtney Steffy of Moscow, Idaho, a Marketing major; and Jason Wilson of St. Paul, Minn., a Marketing major. Two CBE professors, Ed Love of the Department of Marketing and Jongwook Kim of the Department of Management, served as coaches for the team.

For this year鈥檚 competition the various collegiate teams evaluated a business case focusing on the 鈥淏e Remarkable鈥 marketing campaign of the 45 credit unions that comprise the Credit Unions of British Columbia network. The suggestions and the recommendations made by the student teams, as well as by the industry expert judges, will be taken into consideration for further development of the Credit Union鈥檚 鈥淏e Remarkable鈥 campaign.

This was the eighth year of the competition and the first to include schools from the United States, making it the first international Intercollegiate Marketing Competition.

草榴社区鈥檚 CBE hopes to continue its involvement in this program in future years. For more information on the 草榴社区 team, contact Ed Love, assistant professor of Marketing at (360) 650-6414 or ed.love@wwu.edu.聽
