草榴社区 to host eighth annual Children鈥檚 Literature Conference March 5
Western Washington University will host an award-winning author and award-winning illustrator at the eighth annual 草榴社区 Children鈥檚 Literature Conference on Saturday, March 5, at 8 a.m.
This event has become an annual tradition for many, where teachers and librarians, readers and writers gather to celebrate and learn about children鈥檚 literature.
Kirby Larson, 2007 Newbery Honor book author, will be the first to present this year. Her thoughtful stories and timeless characters captivate both children and adult audiences alike. Larson鈥檚 newest book, 鈥淭he Fences Between Us: The Diary of Piper Davis鈥 is set in Washington state during the Japanese internment, and was published last fall.
Chris Raschka, Caldecott Medal and Caldecott Honor award recipient, will be the second speaker this year. With his bold lines and color saturation, he has been called one of the most original illustrators at work today. This past summer, Raschka released his newest work 鈥淟ittle Black Crow,鈥 which he wrote and illustrated.
The cost to attend the conference is $40 before Feb. 11 and $50 after that date. Current college students and retired teachers will receive a discount.
