草榴社区 to Host Tourn茅es French Film Festival in April
The French section of Western Washington University鈥檚 Department of Modern and Classical Languages, in conjunction with the Department of History, the English Department, and the Ray Wolpow Institute for the Study of the Holocaust, Genocide, and Crimes Against Humanity, will host the Tourn茅es French Film Festival in April.
The festival, which will run for three weeks, will feature six films which deal with various aspects of World War II and the time periods just before and after the war. 鈥淔rantz鈥 by Fran莽ois Ozon will screen at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 9, followed by 鈥淧arce que j鈥櫭﹖ais peintre鈥 by Christophe Cognet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11. 鈥淟e Dernier des Injustes鈥 by Claude Lanzmann will be shown at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 16 and 鈥淒iplomatie鈥 by Volker Schl枚ndorff will be playing at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18. 鈥淔rancofonia鈥 by Alexander Sokurov will be playing at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 23, followed by 鈥淧anique鈥 by Julien Duvivier at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25. All shows will take place in Viking Union 552 on Western鈥檚 campus.
All screenings are free and open to the public and will also include brief discussions before and after the films led by various members of Western鈥檚 faculty. Please note that due to the length of the April 16 screening, 鈥淟e Dernier des Injustes,鈥 the pre-show discussion will start at 6:30 p.m. and there will be no post-show discussion. The speakers include: Sandra Alfers, professor of German; Amanda Eurich professor of History; C茅cile Hanania, professor of French; Scott Taylor, senior instructor of French; Greg Youmans, assistant professor of Film Studies and English; and Sarah Zarrow, assistant professor of History.
