The French section of Western Washington University’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages, in conjunction with the Department of History, the English Department, and the Ray Wolpow Institute for the Study of the Holocaust, Genocide, and Crimes Against Humanity, will host the Tournées French Film Festival in April.

The festival, which will run for three weeks, will feature six films which deal with various aspects of World War II and the time periods just before and after the war. “Frantz” by François Ozon will screen at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 9, followed by “Parce que j’étais peintre” by Christophe Cognet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11. “Le Dernier des Injustes” by Claude Lanzmann will be shown at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 16 and “Diplomatie” by Volker Schlöndorff will be playing at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18. “Francofonia” by Alexander Sokurov will be playing at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 23, followed by “Panique” by Julien Duvivier at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25. All shows will take place in Viking Union 552 on Western’s campus.

All screenings are free and open to the public and will also include brief discussions before and after the films led by various members of Western’s faculty. Please note that due to the length of the April 16 screening, “Le Dernier des Injustes,” the pre-show discussion will start at 6:30 p.m. and there will be no post-show discussion. The speakers include: Sandra Alfers, professor of German; Amanda Eurich professor of History; Cécile Hanania, professor of French; Scott Taylor, senior instructor of French; Greg Youmans, assistant professor of Film Studies and English; and Sarah Zarrow, assistant professor of History.
