BELLINGHAM – Western Washington University’s College of Fine and Performing Arts will host a performance by students aged 4-12 of the Western Arts Preparatory Academy (WAPA) at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 18 at the Performing Arts Center Mainstage.
The students will demonstrate their new skills learned in the areas of violin, creative dance, and ballet during the WAPA academic year youth classes.
The first section of the performance, led by music instructor Lisa Humphries, will be a violin demonstration by Suzuki violin students from the music program. The violin students will perform as a group, not only demonstrating basic violin techniques and ensemble skills, but highlighting favorite songs.
A dance section will follow. The dance students will showcase an original number, titled “Imagination Animation,” that melds together creative dance and story ballet. This one act performance follows a young girl who discovers magical toys powered by the imagination after her video game runs out of batteries. This section will be led by dance instructor Rachel Narhi.
The admission cost for general audience attendance is $10. Tickets can be obtained at the Western Washington University Box Office located in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center (PAC) at Western Washington University, 516 High Street, Bellingham, WA or email boxoffice@wwu.edu. Details and parking information are on the website or call (360) 650-6146.
