Summer festivals bring fun to Whatcom County

Raspberries and rodeos, carnival rides, parades and classical music 鈥 Whatcom County draws hundreds of local folks and tourists from near and far to enjoy summer festivals in the Fourth Corner.

Tickets on sale soon for Bellingham Festival of Music

A performance of the Mozart Requiem, the Mahler Fourth Symphony, and appearances by guest soloists Lynn Harrell, Cho-Liang Lin, Kuok-Wai Lio, Peter Serkin and the resident Calidore String Quartet will highlight the Bellingham Festival of Music鈥檚 23rd season, July 1-17.

Music: Festival finale is Haydn鈥檚 鈥楥reation鈥 masterpiece

A performance of Joseph Haydn鈥檚 鈥淭he Creation鈥 at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 19, at Western Washington University鈥檚 Performing Arts Center, is the final concert in the 2015 Bellingham Festival of Music. The work will be performed by the Festival Orchestra, Festival Chorus, and guest soloists Morris鈥

Music: Pianist Arnaldo Cohen at Bellingham Festival of Music

Brazilian-born pianist Arnaldo Cohen performs at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, at Western Washington University鈥檚 Performing Arts Center for the Bellingham Festival of Music. He will perform the Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1 in D minor.

Also on the program: J.S. Bach鈥檚 Brandenburg Concerto鈥

Artist profile: Mitchell Kahn balances music, profession

Dr. Mitchell Kahn is in his fifth year as general director of Skagit Opera and is on the board of directors of Bellingham Festival of Music. He鈥檚 the kind of person who fits the adage: 鈥淎sk a busy person鈥 to do something.

B-52s, classical concerts enliven Bellingham this summer

Bellingham Festival of Music has garnered some of the best classical instrumentalists and vocalists since its founding in 1993 under artistic director Michael Palmer. This year鈥檚 season runs July 3-19, with five orchestral concerts, four chamber music concerts, and two master classes open to the鈥

Cellist Joshua Roman performs at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 24, at Western Washington University鈥檚 Performing Arts Center, hosted by the Bellingham Festival of Music.

Whatcom Symphony and the Bellingham Festival of Music host The Oliver Reed Trio from Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles in two 鈥淧lay It Forward鈥 concerts: at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, at Western Washington University鈥檚 Performing Arts Center; and at 7:30 p.m. March 21 at Bellingham High鈥
