State officials thrive on diversity afforded immigrant families

My longtime friend, Ambassador Gary Locke received an honorary degree this past spring from Western Washington University where I graduated, barely, in 1966. Today, I serve as a trustee at that great institution. We were proud to have our 鈥榝ormer鈥 Governor speak to the graduates.

Making a chain a family business

With a smile on his face and a satchel over his shoulder, Robert Penney stepped inside Menchie鈥檚 Frozen Yogurt on Bakerview Road. He approached a family with two young children and introduced himself.
鈥淚鈥檓 the owner,鈥 he said. 鈥淲ould you like a balloon animal?鈥

EdCC hires former player as new softball coach

Edmonds Community College has announced it has hired a former player as the school鈥檚 new softball coach.

Sheryl Gilmore will take over the team next spring, which has included players from the Mukilteo and Everett area. Gilmore, who played at EdCC went to Edmonds-Woodway High School.

While in high school in Idaho, Korby Lenker had a cover band where he tried on various alt-rock identities, singing and playing ukulele and guitar. Then he got into transcribing Trey Anastasio guitar solos as part of his music-theory studies at Western Washington University.
